Baileys new van, its a dogs life!
30th November 2011
Hi, this is me. My name’s Bailey, and this is our new van. Well, I say it’s new because it is to us. My Dad’s well chuffed, he thinks it’s built to a very high standard and what he calls ‘the spec’ is very high, too. Furthermore, he says it drives very well with visibility and easy ‘manoeuvrability’. He tends to get a bit technical for me! Mum’s delighted as well, she’s been nesting, filling the van with the personal accessories that human beings of that gender seem to like.
As for me? I feel like a king, a ‘Camper King’! I’m up front with a bed between the two seats. I’m harnessed but that doesn’t bother me. There’s oceans of space and I love being up front with them rather than in the back of the estate car, which is my normal place. We’ve been for a longish drive in it, to Devon and back, staying at Sarah’s. We were going to stay an extra night and do the camping bit but Dad said the weather was ‘shxxx’ (Oops, I’d better not use his actual words).
I know, I know, camper vans are much better than tents for camping in the wet, but Dad and Mum said it was really bad, foggy and dark grey at the middle of the day, let alone at night! They didn’t want this to be their first time, though I didn’t mind. They’re wimps, really! Dad said: ‘Discretion the better of valour’, or something similar, which I didn’t understand.
I’m looking forward to an overnighter whenever that will be. Don’t know where I’ll sleep yet. I’d like the bed but they’ve already said they won’t let me have that. They say if I’m naughty they’ll put me up top. But they know just as well as me that I can easily jump down. So I guess I’ll be in the cab or in front of the bed. There’s plenty of room, an advantage of lwb, so Dad says. (What’s lwb?) . For some reason they both say they don’t fancy wet dog and a night’s sleep. What’s the matter with them? I’ll be the one who’s wet!
Anyway I’ll keep in touch and let you know how the overnighter and the holidays go.

Well it’s been almost two months since our decisive weekend
29th October 2011
Well it’s been almost two months since our decisive weekend in one of Camper Kings hire fleet made us finally take the plunge and order one. With a hectic lifestyle like ours, racing around the country participating in triathlons, mountain bike races and the like it just made sense. With all the racing and commentating this year so far we have totalled almost 25 trips so having the van is hopefully going to be a real godsend.
We opted for the short wheelbase version with pop top, carbon finish units and leather style upholstery. We figured that the detritus from all that racing would be easily cleaned with this finish! A white van also allows us to add on any custom decals at a later date.
So after numerous calls with Spencer the day arrived. We drove up to Stratford and there waiting for us was the sparkling van. What can I say? Superb finish and with everything we had wanted just spot on. In actual fact the quality was even better than I had thought. Driving back to south Wales in atrocious weather with huge grins on our faces says it all. We have spent last few days kitting out the van with essentials although it’s already become the kids favourite! We have been to rugby in it, loaded it up for a day on the bikes and toured the eateries of Carmarthenshire!
Everyone who has seen it has commented on the quality of finishing and spec and I can’t wait to give it a real spin out.

The Price is right!!!

CAMERKING REVISITED !!!!
31st August 2011
CamperKing Revisited!
Thanks again for another luxury festival experience ,Our 2nd Cropredy Festival in 5Star accommodation and luckily much drier than last year!
Loved all the little improvements and tweaks – we didn’t think it was possible to have made the campers even better but EVERYTHING seems to have been thought of and it all works brilliantly.
There’s no better place crash out when the cider, wine, festival food and crazy dancing have all taken their toll. See you again next year. Chris & Katy

Hi Spencer,
Sorry it has taken so long to get this over to you, only just got the pics off the camera. This was our first trip with Camper King ,weekend break to Wells. Amazing beach and dog walks if people are looking for a short break. We were recommended Camper King buy some friends . The product and the service do not disappoint ,and as mentioned before you can take the dog!!

Canoeing with the dog

GREAT FUN AND DOG FRIENDLY!!!
This is the second time we have rented a camper from Spencer and the experience was just as good this time around. Easy to book, simple handover and no fuss getting us on the road. We love to take the dog with us on weekend trips, but most hotels that allow them are not often 5 Star if you catch my drift, this makes these campers even more appealing. We took a smaller van this time, but there was still more than enough room for us both and the dog. We will certainly be using Camper King again. Thanks for another great weekend!

The winning combination
27th June 2011
Our hired Van from camperking was perfect for our Half Ironman Triathlon event in Devon. The rear bike rack provided was superb for all our bikes, the heater kept us warm and clothes dry.
The awning makes a great living area, and the facilities in the van served us well throughout the day brewing tea and pasta.
Having the van got us right to our location and we got a few good nights sleep.

Seaside fun
16th June 2011
Hi Spencer
Another brilliant weekend in one of your campers, this time we went to the Gower, Wales – stunning coastal views! Lots of food, wine and very funny moments, too many to mention but keywords would be ‘gymnastics’, ‘I’m not very good at Scrabble’ and ‘I think we should have taken a left there…’ As before we were warm and comfy and loved every minute!
Thanks again, will be in touch soon,

A trip to the beach
16th May 2011
Hi Spencer,
Here are a few pics for your website.
The van was first class and exceeded all my expectations. It was comfortable and plenty spacious enough for the four of us. Our boys thought the campervan was great and said they loved sleeping up in the roof. We had a lovely weekend in Somerset, thanks very much for all your help.
Best regards,

Royal couple seen in camper exclusive!!!!!!
5th May 2011
Hi Spencer,
Hope you are keeping well. Just thought I’d update you on our latest van antics. The alternative Royal wedding on Lake Ullswater (where Kate and Will REALLY went on their honeymoon!!).
The beauty of a T5 for me is that you can physically get to places where normal camper vans/motor homes can’t. A prime example is Side Farm in Patterdale. If you are brave enough to battle the rough and windy track, the site is well worth the struggle. The views are amazing. We had a lakeside spot with it’s own beach and the weather was kind for a change. We have added a bike rack to the van now which has made lots of difference as we no longer have to move once we get set up. We’ve also bought a kayak which is brilliant fun. Had a fab long weekend biking, walking, kayaking and of course, eating and drinking. The van is now equipped with every home comfort known to man from sheepskin rugs, fur throws, scatter cushions etc. to every cooking utensil, sauce and spice you could think of. There is heaps of storage space so I just fill what I can!! The fridge was great for the royal wedding champagne (would have been rude not to). Home again now to prepare for our grand tour of the west coast/Highlands of Scotland on the 14th. Can’t wait. Will update you in due course.

Just a quick note to say how much we enjoyed having one of your luxury camper fleet, i have burned a selection of photo’s for you, as you can see from some of them it got pretty wet and muddy at the Cropredy festival this year – so glad we weren’t in a tent

Sam and Martins weekend break
21st February 2011
Hi Spencer
Just thought I’d write a quick note to say Martin and I loved having the campervan this weekend. After a grey January we fancied a weekend away; fresh air, fish and chips on the beach and some time to ourselves was too tempting to resist, so we abandoned work without a second glance at 5pm on Friday and hit the road to Devon. We stayed at a campsite called Hidden Valley, near Ilfracombe and it was perfect, we had a lovely warm welcome, the facilities were good, and once we hooked up to the electrical point all we had to do was relax. We were in the depths of a valley close to Saunton Sands and Croyde – the van was great round the smaller coastal roads when we went exploring and even better when we pulled up and made ourselves hot coffee and bacon sandwiches overlooking the sea. Having not done it for a while, I had forgotten how important it was to make time to go and do things like this, and it was so easy! Martin and I had a fantastic time, we played scrabble, we drank wine and we ate chilli that we brought from home – totally self sufficient and incredibly comfortable. Thanks Spencer, I’ll be recommending Camperking to friends and colleagues, a non-expensive, long weekend and an adventure was just what we needed. Looking forward to planning our next trip now so we’ll be in touch again soon!
Thanks again,
Samantha and Martin Goodhead

WINDY WEATHER
14th February 2011
Despite the appalling countrywide weather forecast last weekend, Mark and I were both going stir crazy and the van was beckoning. We decided to brave the torrential rain and gales, pack the waterproofs and drive up to Langdale in the Lakes and if all else failed, spend a weekend tucked up eating and drinking with a good book and a DVD.
I have to say that there is a certain smug satisfaction to be gained from sitting in the cozy van with the heating on drinking a good bottle of red by candlelight watching tents fly past the window like tumbleweeds with their drenched owners chasing after them. I did think about helping but sadly, my filet steak was almost ready and I do like it rarely done! The next morning one of the said campers came for a look around the van and said what an object of desire he considered it to be. Your details were duly passed on. We then sat with the side door open drinking morning coffee for a couple of hours watching a woodpecker in a nearby tree and a pure white stoat hunting rabbits only a stone’s throw away from us. A Merlin swooped down to join in the fun, you don’t see that every day. For those who love nature and the outdoors but would never brave a tent (hands up, I’m one of them!!) having a van like ours is quite the best way of doing it. It drives/parks like a dream, even on the narrowest of roads, you have all your home comforts, whatever the weather, and you can get to those extreme places that touring caravans could never reach. Perfect. We managed two lovely walks, a couple of pints of real ale on Saturday night at the Old Dungeon Ghyll Inn (which, again, in spite of the terrible weather was jam packed with walkers and climbers and had a buzzing atmosphere, like all good pubs used to be ) and a breakfast at Lucy’s in Ambleside (cheese and bacon rosti highly recommended!!). We even squeezed in a cheeky cream tea in Grasmere. Not bad for a weekend’s work! Northumberland is our next venture! Watch this space.
I do hope you are well.
Kind regards.
Michelle and Mark (no longer fair weather campers!!)

Off to the Prom
10th January 2011
Hi Spencer,
The T5 (now affectionately known as “Max”!!) has been on yet another adventure this weekend, despite the appalling weather forecast!!! We decided to take the kids surfing to Abersoch to celebrate the end of GCSE’s. Firstly though, we had to dress up as “LadyMannersSchoolprom bus” which they opted for instead of a stretch limo (mainly due to champagne fridge!!!), see pics. Sadly the boards were redundant this weekend due to howling onshore and cross winds. They stayed tucked away under the van much to the disgust of Matt and Alyss. Felt sorry for the poor campers whos tents, gazebos etc. Got blown away whilst we sat in our lovely van sipping wine and playing cards by candlelight. The weather didn’t affect us too badly though. We had a sea view, plenty of wine in the fridge and a good book or two. Had some lovely walks on the beach with the dog between showers and managed a couple of cheery fires/barbeque in the evenings. Considering a drive to eitherIrelandorFrancenext. Will save theScotlandtrip for next year when we can both throw a full 2 weeks at it.
Kind regards.
Happy Campervanners!!!!!
Latest jaunts in the camper!
3rd November 2010
Hi Spencer,
Hope you are keeping well. As promised, I am updating you on our latest jaunts in the camper!! It has very quickly become a way of life to be honest. Whilst I love the outdoors, I am a bit of a comfort queen so was slightly dubious when Mark suggested we invested in a T5. We’ve always been somewhat tied to home because of having horses and dogs but after my last little accident we decided to part with my beloved Irish Draught and do a bit of traveling. I was thinking more along the lines of a motor home but I’m so glad we didn’t. The T5 is such good fun and very easy to handle, even for me. The VW set are a friendly bunch wherever you go too.
We’ve had two trips up to the Lakes in the last month. The first time we stayed for a week in Patterdale. The site was fairly remote and right on the edge of Ullswater. Amazing views of the mountains, amazing weather (particularly the thunder storms at night!!) and a great success. We very quickly decided that we now needed a bike rack, bars for the roof to take a kayak, surfboards etc. and an awning. So it was back to work to earn a few quid to buy more kit then off again, this time touring around. Did 8 Lakes in one day and even managed to fit the rather appalling England game in at a pub in Great Langdale (what a waste of time that was!!).
The sun shone on us (does that make us righteous?!). We had fires in the evening by the Lake and rustled up some pretty fantastic meals. The van was an absolute star. Climbed Hellvellyn and a few other smaller peaks, hired a boat for a while and explored Ullswater then spent the rest of the time chilling. Another fab time, can’t wait to go again. Surfing in Wales next trip to please the teenage son! I would recommend my new lifestyle to anyone who enjoys a bit of freedom. We are absolutely loving it.

Ziggys first outing to the Welsh Coast
3rd November 2010
Ziggy met up with some of his older T4 mates. He stayed at ‘Cae Du’ site just outside Tywyn. The site allows you to be at one with nature under the stars and appears on the latest edition of ‘Cool Camping’!!
As you can see from the coats being worn it was ‘fresh’ and the central heating was welcome added extra. He then behaved himself in the town of Aberdovey while the new owners went for well earned beer at ‘The Britannia’ after a days kiting and karting on the beach

Michelle and Mark’s next Adventure
3rd November 2010
Hi Spencer,
Just got back from a trip up to North Yorkshire, Heartbeat country. Couple of piccs attached. Stayed on a lovely site within close view of the steam railway at Goathland much to Mark’s delight. Rained heavily in the night and we had to be towed out by the farmer, very amusing.
Advice to all T5ers with flashy alloys and low profile tyres – they look bloody marvellous but invest in some gripper pads!! Ten quid lighter and covered in mud and we were on our way again!! Visited Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, Bempton Cliffs to see the puffins and stayed our final night on Sewerby cliff tops – my first “wild camping” experience. Great fun. Ate our pie and peas by candlelight watching the little boats bobbing about and the Flamborough lighthouse flash across the headland.
Going to try a little further afield next time maybe. Just got home, cleaned her up and now I’m ready for a nice hot bath before the dreaded four letter word (work) tomorrow.
Kind regards. Michelle and Mark
Volkswagen Camperking
21st October 2010
Hi Spencer,
Hope you are well. Our first adventure in the T5 was a resounding success.
Arrived on Exmoor Friday evening as dusk was falling. Unfortunately, hadn’t sussed the sat nav before setting off and with failing light and failing eyesight, struggled to read the instructions!! Only had the postcode of the campsite we were heading for in Doone Valley. Eventually found it by which time it was pitch black. Set up camp by a fast flowing river, got holed in and hoped for the best. Bearing in mind it was very dark, the van was new to us and this was our first time, everything was amazingly easy. Popped the roof up set up the table, kettle on and the fun began!!
The facilities on the site, apart from the loos, were out of use due to frozen pipes. Not a good start but who needs a shower anyway. We warmed up a curry I’d made at home the night before, corked a bottle of wine, listened to the radio and played cards. The bed was very simple to set up and we were certainly ready for it by the time we had finished the wine. The heating went on for 10 minutes before we got in and we stayed toastie all night. Next morning we drove up onto the moors for breakfast with a view. Fried some eggs and ham whilst watching the buzzards, wild ponies and red deer out of the van window. Had a fabulous walk then returned to the same campsite before dark. The fridge was still stocked so cooked up a pasta then set out to win back my losses at cards. Next morning we had a valentines breakfast before heading over to Lynmouth. Cheated that night (as I was extremely ready for a hot bath by then and the showers on site were STILL frozen up), and stayed at the Rising Sun. Champagne, oysters and a four poster were nice but not as much fun as the van AND you can’t choose where to have breakfast!!
Next day the weather was amazing, blue skies and crisp sunshine. Drove to The Valley of the Rocks. Sat with the doors open drinking fresh coffee and finally got around to reading the Sunday papers. Had a lazy couple of days touring round the coast, visited Porlock, Dunster and lots of other places before wandering home on Wednesday morning as there was snow forecast and we didn’t want to get caught out. The van has performed admirably. I can’t believe how easy it is even for me to drive (I like my automatics). We’re delighted with it and just wish we had done this years ago instead of deliberating. Can I just say that your service has been exceptional which has made the whole experience so much more pleasant, particularly in view of our lack of knowledge.
Anyway, Lakes next weekend provided the snow clears off then hopefully up to Scotland.
Kind regards.
Michelle and Mark
